As part of its institutional relations strategy, the Association of Marinas and Tourist Ports 'Marinas de Andalucía' has made an official visit to the Port Authority of Motril, the administration responsible for the concession of the associated Marina Motril. This nautical facility, recently incorporated into the association, is located within the Port of Motril.

This meeting is part of a series of visits that Marinas de Andalucía is conducting with the aim of establishing periodic and collaborative contact with key institutions in the port and nautical sectors, to develop projects and ensure excellent service for all members. "These visits are fundamental for strengthening ties and improving dialogue with public administrations and professional organisations, in our endeavour to be a meeting point and to defend the common interests of our associated marinas and yacht clubs," stated Manuel Raigón, President of Marinas de Andalucía. Raigón was accompanied by members of the delegated commission, Antonio Valbuena and José Luis Bergillos, as members; Alejandro Suanes and David del Barrio, representing Juan Núñez, Vice President of the association; as well as Roberto García and Susana de la Rosa, Director and Head of Administration, respectively, of Marina Motril. During the visit, the members of Marinas de Andalucía were briefed first-hand by the President of the Port Authority of Motril, José García Fuentes, on the "Motril Puerto Abierto" project.

The Port of Motril is undertaking an ambitious investment plan in 2024, valued at nine million euros, which includes the construction of an access roundabout to the Logistics Activities Zone, enhancing connectivity with the port; the construction of a new Civil Guard building; new equipment for border control to make the facilities more agile and secure; as well as a major sustainability project designed to reduce CO2 emissions from docked ships, among other initiatives. Specifically, Marina Motril has been awarded the contract for the construction and operation of the new nautical-sports area and is working to expedite the start of construction as soon as possible.

Marina Motril currently has 70 berths and is notable for its dry marina, a space that can accommodate 180 boats on racks, with lengths between 3 and 9 metres. Additionally, it has a shipyard with a travel lift of 110 tonnes and 8.60 metres of beam. This new project will increase the capacity of the dry marina, allowing it to accommodate up to 700 boats. A new shipyard will also be created, covering 21,000 square metres with two travel lifts, the largest of 450 tonnes and 12 metres of beam; a repair area; and a new yacht club.

Reference in the Andalusian Nautical Sector Marinas de Andalucía bases its management on identifying the common interests of its members and continuously works on their defence and development, "which has allowed us to unify and improve the quality of service provision for all associated marinas and yacht clubs, positioning us as a high-quality nautical destination in Andalusia," noted Manuel Raigón. Marinas de Andalucía currently has 17 members out of the 57 existing in Andalusia, representing nearly 30% of the port concessions granted and 40% in terms of berths.
